Discover the Revitalized Dearborn Park
Nestled on the western edge of Midway Woods, Dearborn Park offers a tranquil retreat with seven acres of vibrant green space. The park now features a new boardwalk and gravel trail, a basketball court, picnic pavilions, running streams, and a recently installed playground—making it a hub for families and outdoor enthusiasts alike.
Dearborn Park is in the midst of an exciting transformation, led by the dedicated efforts of Friends of Dearborn Park, spearheaded by HausZwei Homes owner Kevin Polite. Over the years, we’ve been proud to sponsor and participate in various improvement projects, such as planting azaleas and shrubs along the park’s north side. When spring arrives, this area bursts into color as the azaleas come alive, creating a truly stunning display.
Kevin Polite has also been instrumental in engaging volunteer organizations like City of Decatur and Emory students, corporate groups, and even a local Eagle Scout candidate, who made significant contributions by building and restoring bridges along the park’s trails. Friends of Dearborn Park has played a key role in clearing invasive plants and securing grants to further enhance the park.
Established in 2011, Friends of Dearborn Park began with a simple but ambitious goal: to make the green space accessible for everyone. Achieving this required collaboration with DeKalb County Parks and Recreation, DeKalb County Commission, City of Decatur officials, Park Pride, Trees Atlanta, and dedicated volunteers from neighborhoods like Midway Woods, Dearborn Park, Winona Park, and Oakhurst.
As a Park Pride-affiliated group, Friends of Dearborn Park works tirelessly to ensure the park thrives despite limited funding from DeKalb County Parks & Recreation. Volunteer support is vital to maintaining and improving this community gem, and HausZwei Homes and Kevin Polite have remained steadfast advocates and sponsors of these efforts.
Why We Need Volunteers
The future of Dearborn Park depends on the community’s continued commitment. With funding constraints in DeKalb County, volunteerism is the lifeblood of maintaining and enhancing this space for all to enjoy. Join us in keeping Dearborn Park a vibrant part of our neighborhood!
