While researching Collier Heights we became fascinated with the everything Mid Century and that took us down the path of what were the fashion’s of the 1950’s and 1960’s. We have reached out to the many people we have met in the area and hope to get some actual photos of people during the 1940’s through the 1960’s. Most of the larger homes in Collier Heights have a large basement due African Americans having to entertain at home. Remember, the couldn’t just run out to the new hot spot restaurant because Jim Crow was still in effect during that time. If you were a black family of some financial means you entertained at home and most of this was done in the homes with large basement.
